Job Summary 

500 Startups has invested in over 200 portfolio companies across Southeast Asia and is one of the most active seed investors in the region. We are looking for a Legal Operations Specialist to join our regional Investments team to lead deal management and ad hoc legal projects.

This role provides a unique opportunity to interact heavily with founders of our portfolio companies across the world, build deep expertise in the most exciting and in demand industry, and set a legal career on a commercially-focused trajectory.

We are looking for people who apply deep logic to their thinking and highly organized self-starters who are able to efficiently multi-task and see all projects from start to finish in a timely manner, learning from mistakes made along the way.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Manage the deal life cycle from deal handshake to completion across various stakeholders and workflows, ensuring timely, precise and accurate closure of all investments for the fund.
      • Manage and build productive relationships with outside counsel across multiple jurisdictions to ensure timely and knowledgeable support of all investments and legal projects.
      • Collaborate closely with founders, co-investors, outside counsel and internal cross-functional stakeholders to develop and implement processes for efficient and streamlined legal operations and deal efficiencies.
      • Drive portfolio management post closing – including leading shareholder voting matters, advising on fundraising strategy, and ensuring data and documentation repository are up to date and accurate at all times in order for capital formation, discovery projects and business intelligence teams to draw accurate business insights.
      • Manage and provide legal advice on any other ad hoc projects as required by the team.

 

Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s law degree or equivalent practical experience.
        2-5 years of work experience in fast-paced environments with a focus on law and/or legal operations, including experience doing international deals and working across cultures.
      • Excellent project management and stakeholder management skills, and detail-oriented.
      • Ability to efficiently multi-task multiple deals and workflows, and calmly work under tight deadlines and across timezones.
      • Excellent judgment and capable of making smart decisions in the face of ambiguous and incomplete information.
      • Excellent communicator with great interpersonal and communication skills.
      • Comfortable with a variety of responsibilities, able to excel in a lean team and self-start on a continuous basis with minimal direction but high expectations.
      • Humble, curious, adaptable and supportive.
